One lipstick, three ways
One
of the
things I am wary of, in the green beauty industry, is providing a way
for
people to simply replace one type of consumerism with another. Because
honestly, as a whole we really do buy too much crap that we just don’t
need. Here
I am
going to show you how to create three different looks with the same
lipstick. The photos are not the greatest but you'll see what I mean. The current
trend for lips is either a sheer wash of colour (which actually never really
goes out of fashion), and a heavy matt lip. I will show you how to achieve
these two looks, as well as a high gloss lip, using just three products: One
lipstick, one lip balm, and one lip gloss. These are
the three trusty products I like to use for this myself are:
Suvana
BioGloss in Dusk (a translucent pinky-nude) Shizen
STICK lipbalm (moisturising but not high gloss) Jasmin Lip
Stick in Violet Veil (it is best to buy a matt lipstick if you want to make use
of it’s full potential in versatility)
A SHEER WASH
First take
your lip balm and use it as normal. This creates a waxy barrier that lipstick
pigment can’t hold onto very well, so that next, when you swipe your lipstick
over your mouth once, you will simply get a natural wash of colour that is
perfect for a natural, all day look. Rocket science, I know. A HIGH PIGMENT MATT
High pigment
matt is very trendy right now. Just give your lips a quick exfoliate (brush
with toothbrush or wipe with damp facecloth) as matt lipstick tends to stick to
your lips and can make them look dry if your lips aren’t prepped. Then, pat
them dry and swipe on lippy with 2 or 3 coats. Easy! A HIGH SHINE
High shine
gives you a fresh, sexy look for evening. First swipe on your matt lipstick as
above, but just once or twice is enough as the gloss tends to magnify colour.
Then add your gloss and hey presto – high shine lips. You want to go easy on
the gloss and not gloop it on because when you rub your lips together any
excess will rim your lips and it's not a good look. So instead
of buying 3 different lipsticks with three different textures, PLUS a gloss and
balm (which we all have), you can cut your products from 5 to 3. Great for
traveling too!
