Recently I
tried, what I believe to be, a pure genius product for winter, or in fact, for
any skin in the depths of irritation hell. You know when you wash with
soap/liquid/gel body wash and all is fine and dandy until you dry yourself?
Then your skin gets this dusty, scratchy surface that prickles and tickles and
is generally a pain in the bum?
I do love moisturisers, which alleviate the problem, but being a lazy ass (who hates being nude on frosty winter evenings slapping cold goo all over herself) I’d prefer to skip the moisturizing bit completely. Enter genius product: bath oil.
I was sent some beautiful samples of these and immediately I wondered how icky my towels will be after bathing, all greased up. But nooooo, this wasn’t like this at all. It was, to put it mildly, pure bathing/showering bliss.
Basically
all you need do is, after undressing, drizzle the oil over your body and rub in
like you would any lotion. It isn’t cold or messy and it will seem a little
oily until you get in the shower. Magically the oil turns to a milky liquid and
runs off, taking with it the days sweat and grime. The idea is that oils
attract oils, and lifts the old gunk off your skin. Now you can’t use any old
oil for this, it does need a few magic ingredients for the alchemy to work. I
highly recommend Absolutely Gorgeous Relax Me Bath Oil.
And they smell just so juicy!
Apparently oils have been used for thousands of years (think of the ancient Greek and Roman bath houses, and our beloved Ms Cleopatra) for cleansing instead of soap. They were rubbed on then scraped off, leaving skin clean, gently fragranced, beautifully soft, and lush. Without the oiliness but with maximum hydration.
