Winter is definitely the best time to renew and rejuvenate your skin.
For starters, we all seem to sleep a little more, which helps our skin
immensely (more sleep, less stress!). Plus, we seem to add more fats to
our diet during this time of year. Hopefully they are the good fats
(full of essential fatty acids), and not the doughnut/croissant kind!
I use winter to dose my skin up with nutrients and concentrate on cell turnover. And how do we do that? Exfoliation!
Try to find a fine, gentle scrub to use every 2nd day after cleansing in the evening. Miessence Garnet Exfoliant is our favourite to gently buff your skin to perfection.
Well prepped (exfoliated skin) allows your lotions and potions to
penetrate better into your skin.
After exfoliation you may want
to use a toner to restore your skin's pH balance. The pH balance is the
skin's natural acid mantle, which helps protect it. You can do this
while soothing the skin, refreshing the skin or cleansing the skin,
depending on the kind of toner you use. In winter you may want to use a
brightening toner, like MiEssence Probiotic Skin Brightener, which uses fermented grains to help with cell renewal, brightening your complexion with consistent usage.
Then come the serums or oils. There are a lot of great serums on the market, but the old faithful Nancy Evans Organic Rosehip Pure Oil is a constant best-seller. Pat a few drops on, or mix a couple of drops with your regular night cream for extra nourishment.
Remember,
if you want a brighter, fresher complexion that is more even toned you
will want to protect your skin during the day from the sun. Mukti Tinted Moisturiser with SPF15 is a physical barrier sunscreen (no nasties!) that offers a hint of colour, and is light and non-greasy.
This,
along with regular exercise, a balanced diet, sound sleep and lots of
laughter will give you optimal skin health: radiant, fresh, and peachy
smooth!
